Director, Country Cluster (UPGI)

About the role

The Director, Country Cluster (DCC) joins the Executive Leadership Team of the Ultra‑Poor Graduation Initiative (UPGI) at BRAC International. Based in Nairobi, the DCC strengthens strategic and systems capacity across a cluster of country programmes, supporting Country Leads and ensuring coherence across multiple nations.

Key responsibilities

• Guide Country Leads in developing and articulating compelling country strategies.
• Provide technical and systems‑change expertise to help teams navigate complex government partnerships.
• Supervise UPGI programmes in Tanzania, Rwanda, Ethiopia, and South Africa.
• Design and lead the expansion strategy for UPGI work in Kenya.
• Facilitate cross‑country learning and alignment among the five‑person Executive Leadership Team.
• Travel frequently to supervised countries and other locations as required.

Required profile

• Senior‑level experience in international development or poverty‑alleviation programmes.
• Proven ability to work with government stakeholders and multi‑country teams.
• Strong strategic thinking and systems‑capacity building skills.
• Excellent communication and collaborative leadership style.
