Director of Logistics

About the role

Big Life Kenya is seeking an experienced, technically grounded and hands-on Director of Logistics to lead its physical assets, fleet, workshop, stores, infrastructure and logistics operations. Reporting to the Chief Operating Officer (COO) with a dotted-line link to the Chief Finance & Administration Officer, the role covers the end-to-end lifecycle of physical assets and combines strategic planning with practical execution.

Key responsibilities

• Lead asset planning, acquisition, utilization, preventive maintenance, rehabilitation, replacement and disposal, keeping accurate asset records
• Oversee workshop operations, vehicle and equipment maintenance, fleet utilization, fuel efficiency, downtime and operating costs, and make evidence-based repair-versus-replacement decisions
• Coordinate infrastructure development, construction, rehabilitation and maintenance projects, ensuring quality, cost control, timely delivery and proper handover
• Strengthen inventory management, stock controls, verification, security and accountability for materials, equipment and spare parts
• Lead logistics requirements planning and technical specifications, working with the centralized Procurement function on supplier evaluation, quality assurance, timely delivery and value for money
• Lead and develop technical and logistics teams, manage budgets and strengthen operational systems and controls

Required profile

• Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Logistics and Supply Chain Management, Operations Management, Procurement, Business Administration or a related field
• At least 8 years of relevant professional experience, including 3-5 years in management or senior supervision
• Practical technical experience in at least two of: fleet/workshop operations, automotive or mechanical systems, machinery and equipment, infrastructure/construction, facilities management, asset management or technical project delivery
• Proven experience managing operational teams, physical assets, maintenance programs and CAPEX projects
• Strong financial and commercial acumen, including budgeting, cost control and supplier management
• Ability to work in demanding field environments and manage geographically dispersed teams
• Added advantage: technical or professional qualifications in engineering, mechanical/automotive systems, project management or supply chain management; experience in conservation, NGO or humanitarian organizations

The role is not desk-based: the ideal candidate is comfortable developing operational plans, inspecting vehicles and infrastructure, engaging technical teams and solving problems in the field.
