Director of Music for Cathedral

About the role

All Saints’ Cathedral in Nairobi seeks a dedicated Director of Music to lead and administer all music programmes across the church. Reporting to the Head of Worship and Hospital Chaplaincy, the role aims to foster worship that engages all generations and deepens the congregation’s connection with God.

Key responsibilities

• Direct and supervise parish musical ensembles, including choir directors, assistant organists and other music ministry staff.
• Source, arrange and provide music for all church activities in consultation with the Worship Minister.
• Lead congregational singing at regular worship services and play the organ for weddings, funerals and mid‑week services.
• Manage the cathedral music library, oversee instrument maintenance, and coordinate organ sustainability with technicians.
• Prepare and administer the annual music budget and monitor procurement of music‑related equipment.
• Recruit, train and develop organists, choristers, instrumentalists and young singers in school and Sunday School choirs.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in music or equivalent (final‑year students accepted).
• ABRSM Grade 8 certification (or candidates currently preparing for the exam).
• Minimum five years’ experience in a similar music‑directorship role.
• Profound faith in Jesus Christ and a pastoral sensitivity.
