Director, People and Culture

About the role

The Director, People and Culture will lead Boma Project’s human‑resources function across multiple countries, shaping strategy, culture and safeguarding for a high‑impact poverty‑graduation programme. Reporting to the CEO, you will be the strategic partner driving people initiatives that enable ultra‑poor women in arid Africa to build sustainable livelihoods.

Key responsibilities

• Design and implement job grading/evaluation frameworks (e.g., Hay, Mercer, Paterson) and career‑pathing programs.
• Develop succession‑planning initiatives and monitor outcomes.
• Create and execute organizational safeguarding policies, case‑management systems, and PSEAH/child‑protection protocols.
• Act as a strategic HR partner to the senior leadership team, strengthening or building the people function.
• Oversee end‑to‑end people and culture operations across a matrixed, multi‑country environment.
• Lead project‑management, capacity‑planning and business‑development activities related to HR.

Required profile

• 10+ years progressive HR experience, preferably in NGOs/INGOs with multi‑country scope.
• Proven track record designing job evaluation, career‑pathing and succession‑planning systems.
• Experience developing safeguarding strategies and managing related cases.
• Strong partnership experience with CEOs or senior leadership.
• Bachelor’s degree plus a postgraduate HR diploma or CHRP/IHRM certification; Master’s degree preferred.
• Professional certifications in safeguarding, PSEAH or child protection are an advantage.
