District Veterinary Medical Officer

About the role

The District Veterinary Medical Officer provides veterinary expertise to ensure compliance with animal health regulations, humane handling practices, and USDA policies within the assigned district. This position involves interpreting guidelines, conducting investigations, and supporting plant personnel.

Key responsibilities

• Interpret and analyze federal guidelines, regulations, and policies related to veterinary medicine.
• Implement these guidelines to provide personnel support and ensure compliance.
• Conduct research, investigations, and on‑site humane handling verification activities.
• Foster working relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
• Communicate processes and guidelines to plant personnel.
• Draft recommendations, reports, and guidance documents.
• Apply veterinary medical concepts, principles, and practices in daily operations.

Required profile

• U.S. citizen or national; males born after 12/31/1959 must be Selective Service registered or exempt.
• Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (DVM) or equivalent degree from an AVMA‑accredited school, or foreign degree with ECFVG certification and a full, unrestricted veterinary license in the U.S.
• Successful completion of background investigation, fingerprint check, and E‑Verify.
• Ability to pass a one‑year probationary period and complete required training.
