Electrician – Service

About the role

SPATCO is looking for an energetic service electrician who can read blueprints and electrical diagrams showing the location of circuits, outlets and other equipment. The role involves installing, testing and maintaining electrical equipment and fixtures used in the petroleum industry, and troubleshooting faults with testing equipment.

Key responsibilities

• Assemble, install, test and maintain electrical or electronic equipment and fixtures used in the petroleum industry, by hand and power tools.
• Troubleshoot and diagnose malfunctioning systems or components using testing equipment such as ohm meters, voltmeters, amp probes and meggers.
• Install conduits, pull wire and make final connections to circuit breakers.
• Inspect electrical systems and components to verify compliance with safety requirements, codes, project specifications and manufacturer requirements.
• Advise management, customers and colleagues about hazards and when systems are safe to operate.
• Assist the estimator with material take-offs, material costs and labour allowances.

Required profile

• High school diploma or GED.
• 7 years of electrician work experience, including 5 years in commercial work and at least 1 year as a journeyman electrician.
• Clean driving record and ability to pass background and drug screening.
• Knowledge of electrician standards and codes.
• Ability to work overtime and be on call, and to work outdoors in all weather conditions.
• Detail-oriented, with strong communication skills and the ability to work under time pressure and with others.
• Able to lift 75–100 lbs when necessary and follow company procedures.

Required skills

• Reading blueprints and electrical diagrams.
• Use of hand and power tools such as conduit benders.
• Use of ammeters, voltmeters, thermal scanners and cable testers.
