Elevator Mechanic

About the role

The Elevator Mechanic will ensure the safe, reliable operation of embassy elevators through routine maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair of mechanical and electrical components. Reporting to the Elevator Supervisor, the role supports continuous certification and licensing compliance.

Key responsibilities

• Maintain a safe workplace and adhere to all Environmental Health & Safety and Quality Assurance standards.
• Diagnose and repair faults in brakes, motors, switches, signal and control systems using test lamps, ammeters, voltmeters and other diagnostic tools.
• Disassemble defective units and replace parts such as locks, gears, cables, safety devices, and lubricate bearings.
• Install or repair transformers, switchboards, controllers, circuit breakers, motors, heating units, conduit systems, and related transmission equipment.
• Interpret blueprints, drawings, layouts, and schematics to locate and resolve equipment issues.
• Perform preventative maintenance according to published schedules and provide input for maintenance program improvements.
• Conduct equipment testing with voltmeters, ammeters, ohmmeters, continuity testers, feeler gauges, frequency counters, and other trade tools.

Required profile

• High school diploma or GED; apprenticeship or Journeyman’s Certificate strongly preferred.
• Familiarity with engineering drawings, wiring diagrams, and manufacturers’ manuals.
• Knowledge of applicable US and European Electrical Codes and standard trade practices.
• Experience with annual maintenance and load‑testing procedures for electrical and mechanical systems.
