Entry-Level Outreach Worker

About the role

Ishtar, which runs the Ishtar Wellness Centre in Nairobi, is looking for entry-level Outreach Workers to engage young MSM and transgender persons (18 years and above), bi-men, male sex workers, transgender women, gay men and MSM+ in Nairobi and its environs so they can access the centre's services. The application closes on Friday, 6 November 2026.

Key responsibilities

• Supervise and connect with peer educators in enrolling and keeping the MSM and TG cohort in the programme.
• Carry out community outreaches in areas where MSMs and TGs congregate.
• Co-facilitate curriculum-based and open support group discussions on health-related topics for MSMs and TGs.
• Give presentations to the target community on health, rights and MSM/TG topics.
• Handle administrative duties such as data entry.
• Oversee the distribution of condoms and lubricants and give safe sex information.
• Perform other duties assigned by the supervisor.

Required profile

• High School Certificate (KCSE) or diploma.
• Must have been a peer educator in a programme.
• Experience facilitating MSM and transgender communities on HIV prevention, care and treatment.
• Experience working with young MSM and the LGBTQ+ community.
• Intermediate knowledge of HIV/AIDS and sexual and reproductive health, with sensitivity to cultural, ethnic and gender differences.
• Proficiency in reading and writing English.

Required skills

• Strong presentation and writing skills.
• Basic computer and data management skills.
• Excellent social and interpersonal skills.
• Experience in HIV testing and counselling and data entry is an added advantage.
