Environment and Climate Action Senior Advisor

About the role

World Vision is seeking a senior advisor to provide technical and strategic leadership on environmental sustainability and climate change action across its East Africa operations. The role will guide field offices in integrating climate‑resilient practices, support large‑scale climate financing initiatives and raise the organization’s profile as a preferred partner for climate funding.

Key responsibilities

• Support the rollout and application of the Environmental Stewardship Policy across East Africa regional offices.
• Assist field offices in designing, implementing and monitoring integrated ESCA projects, building their capacity to embed climate action.
• Develop advocacy and communication materials such as capability statements, case studies, research briefs and business cases to strengthen commitment to environmental stewardship.
• Nurture a community of practice at field level to reduce World Vision’s environmental footprint and promote carbon‑footprint reduction initiatives.
• Monitor and report on ESCA implementation against regional and global KPIs, providing quality‑assurance checks on a sampling basis.
• Advise field offices on policy statements related to environmental stewardship and climate action.
• Lead regional efforts to pre‑position for Green Climate Fund and other large‑scale climate financing opportunities, including donor engagement and innovative financing.
• Represent the region in global working groups and partnership platforms on environmental stewardship and climate action.

Required profile

• Senior‑level professional with extensive experience in environmental stewardship, climate change mitigation and adaptation within development or humanitarian contexts.
• Proven track record in securing and managing climate‑finance mechanisms such as the Green Climate Fund.
• Strong analytical, communication and stakeholder‑engagement skills, with ability to influence senior leadership and external partners.
• Experience in designing and delivering capacity‑building programmes for field teams.
