Environmental Affairs Intern

About the role

The United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) is seeking an Environmental Affairs Intern to join the Ozone Secretariat in Nairobi. Working under the direct supervision of the Executive Secretary, the intern will gain hands‑on experience in sustainable cooling and energy efficiency within the framework of the Montreal Protocol.

Key responsibilities

• Analyse submissions from Parties and conduct research on energy‑efficiency and sustainable‑cooling topics.
• Develop sections of background documents, fact sheets, policy briefs and online resources for intergovernmental meetings.
• Contribute to an online toolkit for energy‑efficiency policy options and an atlas on sustainable cold‑chain.
• Support the preparation and logistics of meetings taking place during the internship period.

Required profile

• Enrolled in or having completed a graduate programme (Master’s or PhD) in engineering, environmental policy or a related field, OR in the final year of a bachelor’s degree in a related discipline.
• No professional work experience required.
