Eye Health / Ophthalmology Specialist

About the role

The Indepth Research Institute seeks an experienced Eye Health / Ophthalmology Specialist to lead the technical and clinical evaluation of an eye‑health programme. The consultant will assess service quality, accessibility and outcomes for children and young adults with visual impairments.

Key responsibilities

• Conduct technical evaluations of ophthalmic care services, screening interventions, medical treatments and assistive‑device distribution.
• Apply OECD‑DAC evaluation criteria, disability inclusion and gender‑responsive approaches to assess project impact and sustainability.
• Engage health practitioners, administrators and beneficiaries in qualitative and quantitative evaluation exercises.
• Provide expert clinical input and contribute to evaluation reports and presentations.

Required profile

• Post‑graduate degree in Ophthalmology, Optometry, Public Health (Eye Health) or related field.
• Minimum 7 years experience conducting evaluations of eye‑health or public‑health programmes.
• Hands‑on experience in ophthalmic care delivery, vision screening, clinical treatments and assistive devices.
• Field experience working with children and young adults with visual impairments.
