Finance & Budget Assistant – Multiple Positions

About the role

The Finance & Budget Assistant supports the Budget and Financial Management Services unit at the United Nations Office at Nairobi. Working under the direct supervision of Section or Unit Chiefs, the incumbent assists in budget preparation, expenditure monitoring, and the processing of complex accounting transactions.

Key responsibilities

• Act as Certifying Officer in the absence of programme managers for offices outside headquarters.
• Support review, analysis and preparation of medium‑term plans and budget revisions.
• Prepare narrative and tabular documents for cost estimates and budget proposals.
• Assist managers in developing resource requirements for budget submissions.
• Monitor expenditures against approved budgets and prepare necessary adjustments.
• Review requisitions to ensure correct expenditure objects and fund availability.
• Prepare budget performance submissions and analyze variances.
• Process complex, non‑routine accounting transactions and journal vouchers in the ERP system.
• Investigate and correct erroneous or rejected transactions.

• May act as Certifying Officer on behalf of programme managers.
