Finance Intern (Accounts Payable)

About the role

Stratostaff East Africa, a human resources and flexible staffing provider in East Africa, is looking for a Finance Intern in its Finance & Strategy department in Nairobi. The intern reports to the Accountant and provides administrative and accounting support, with a primary focus on the Accounts Payable function. The internship lasts 6 to 12 months.

Key responsibilities

• Receive, verify and organise supplier invoices and supporting documentation, matching them with purchase orders, contracts and goods received notes where applicable
• Prepare invoices for processing and approval, capture them in the accounting system and monitor their approval status
• Prepare payment schedules for review by the Accountant or Senior Accountant and help reconcile supplier statements
• Respond to routine supplier queries about payment status under supervision
• Maintain an organised filing system for finance documents, physical and electronic, and retrieve them for audits and management reviews
• Support month-end finance activities, help maintain supplier master records and prepare documentation for internal and external audits
• Perform data entry and other finance and administrative duties as assigned by the Finance Manager

Required profile

• Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Commerce or a related field
• CPA Part I completed (Part II is an added advantage)
• Basic understanding of accounting principles and Accounts Payable processes
• High accuracy, attention to detail, organisational and analytical skills, and ability to handle confidential information

Required skills

• Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and other Microsoft Office applications
• Ability to manage multiple tasks and meet deadlines
