Financial Accountant

About the role

Kenya Airways is hiring a Financial Accountant for a full-time, middle-level position in Nairobi. The role oversees the company's financial records and transactions, ensuring accurate and timely processing in the General Ledger, and prepares consolidated financial reports in line with IFRS and IAS.

Key responsibilities

• Ensure timely, complete and accurate processing of transactions in the ERP, including final posting of journal entries to the General Ledger.
• Coordinate General Ledger closure so that sub-ledger modules are closed on schedule and management reports are produced on time.
• Manage the Group's General Ledgers and intercompany balances, and prepare consolidated financial statements.
• Prepare supporting schedules, notes to the financial statements and disclosure checklists for statutory reporting.
• Maintain the chart of accounts and perform GL reconciliations; maintain balance sheet accounts with adequate provisions.
• Review subsidiaries' financial reports before consolidation, and prepare the Group Annual Report in line with IFRS, IAS and the Kenya Companies Act 2015.
• Handle internal and external audit requirements and liaise with external auditors.
• Develop, train, motivate and coach staff, and prepare budget and strategy statements of financial position and cash flow.
• Keep up with changes in IFRS, IAS and local regulatory requirements.

Required profile

• Bachelor's degree in accounting, finance or another business-related field.
• Full ACCA or CPA qualification.
• At least five years of experience in general ledger or financial accounting, preferably in the airline industry, a listed entity or a Big Four firm.
• Demonstrable experience preparing consolidated financial statements under IFRS.

Required skills

• Proficiency in relevant accounting software and Microsoft Excel.
• Analytical, detail-oriented and effective communication skills.
