Forester - Forest Establishment and Management

About the role

Q-Sourcing, a manpower management solutions firm operating across East Africa, is looking for a competent, skilled and experienced Forester to work in Eldoret and its environs. The role supports a client in the establishment and management of small, medium and large-scale forests.

Key responsibilities

• Coordinate with the client on planning and supervise extension offices and casual employees in establishing and managing forests.
• Supervise execution of the work plan agreed by the client and provide expert advice on forest management.
• Train supervisors, team leaders and staff on standard operating procedures (SOPs).
• Ensure forest establishment services meet the client's standards per plot, and that tools and equipment are supplied, collected and stored safely.
• Ensure timely, complete and accurate data entry, and that staff payments are processed on time.
• Prepare daily, weekly and periodic reports, manage project execution costs and take responsibility for the project's financial performance.
• Ensure compliance with SOPs and legal requirements, and that activities follow safety protocols.
• Communicate proactively with management and the client about challenges and mitigation measures, and provide documents needed for invoicing.

Required profile

• Minimum Diploma in Forestry or Agroforestry.
• Valid driving and/or motorbike riding licence.
• 3-5 years' experience managing tree plantations.
• Good understanding of finance language and administrative skills.
• Project management skills or experience is an added advantage.

• Computer literate with strong Excel, email and PowerPoint skills.
• Data analysis, report writing and negotiation skills.
• Good knowledge of safety and risk management.
