Gender Equality Consultant – Accelerating Sanitation and Water for All (ASWA) Programme

About the role

The Gender Equality Consultant will provide technical, facilitation and knowledge‑management support to embed gender‑intentional approaches across UNICEF’s Accelerating Sanitation and Water for All (ASWA) programme and related country initiatives.

Key responsibilities

• Assist ASWA and country programmes in integrating gender‑responsive strategies into WASH interventions.
• Consolidate, disseminate and advocate evidence on gender‑equitable WASH generated through ASWA implementation.
• Facilitate knowledge‑sharing sessions and learning platforms for partners and government stakeholders.
• Support UNICEF’s Gender Equality Action Plan 2026‑2029 by aligning WASH activities with gender objectives.
• Produce guidance notes, case studies and policy briefs to promote gender‑sensitive WASH policies.

Required profile

• Advanced degree or equivalent experience in gender equality, WASH, international development or related fields.
• Proven experience in gender‑intentional programming within the WASH sector.
• Familiarity with the eight ASWA focus countries (Mali, Nigeria, Niger, Côte d’Ivoire, Burkina Faso, Mozambique, Tanzania, Somalia).
• Strong facilitation, analytical and knowledge‑management capabilities.
• Ability to work remotely and coordinate with multi‑country teams.
