General Manager, Mountain Region

About the role

Safaricom is looking for a General Manager, Mountain Region, reporting to the Director Sales & Distribution. The role drives the commercial performance and long-term growth of the business in the region, delivering revenue targets, market share growth and subscriber metrics such as gross additions, churn reduction and net adds. It covers a broad portfolio including sales, marketing, emerging markets, financial services, fixed business, technology and human resources, and also owns risk, governance and control.

Key responsibilities

• Develop and execute a localized regional strategy and business plan, translating national targets into regional plans and monitoring performance against strategic objectives
• Build and manage joint business plans with partners, onboarding new strategic partners and resolving escalations
• Expand and optimize the distribution infrastructure, improve product availability, monitor stock levels and reduce stock-outs
• Embed a route-to-customer model, including digital-first last-mile delivery, digital sales tools and retail as experiential centres
• Drive subscriber growth, reduce churn, grow merchants and fixed customers, and pursue upsell and cross-sell opportunities
• Run localized marketing campaigns, track their effectiveness and ROI, and support product launches
• Counter competitor activity and strengthen the organization's market presence in the region
• Lead and align sales, marketing, HR and operations, coach the leadership team, and embed a safety culture
• Own risk, governance and control, ensuring compliance with internal policies, regulatory requirements and audit actions
