Generator Mechanic – Maintenance & Repair

About the role
The Generator Mechanic is responsible for ensuring all standby and operational generators, as well as related mechanical plant, remain fully functional to support BATUK operations. This full‑time, onsite position requires proactive maintenance, rapid fault diagnosis, and compliance with strict safety standards.
Key responsibilities
- Organise and carry out routine inspection, maintenance, servicing and repair of standby and operational generators.
- Maintain compressor plant, ventilation plant, roller‑shutter doors and lifting equipment.
- Diagnose faults, order spare parts and complete equipment logbooks for all mechanical assets.
- Apply relevant legal requirements, JSP 375 standards and safety rule books for petroleum, mechanical systems and confined spaces.
- Supervise and manage labourers and junior tradesmen, providing guidance and feedback.
- Respond to emergencies on a 24‑hour basis, direct repairs and, when required, participate in hands‑on repairs.
- Complete mandatory bi‑annual First Aid and annual Fire training courses.
Required profile
- Minimum Trade Test 1 in Electrical.
- At least three years of experience in generator repair, troubleshooting, servicing and general mechanical maintenance.
- Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) or equivalent.
- Knowledge of installation and maintenance techniques for engines, compressors, generators and related equipment.
- Understanding of occupational hazards, safety practices and heavy‑equipment operation.
