Grants Officer – Legal Aid Services

About the role

The Ministry of Justice is expanding its Legal Aid Services team across Auckland and Wellington. As a Grants Officer you will evaluate and decide on legal aid applications, ensuring timely and high‑quality outcomes for our customers.

Key responsibilities

• Manage the end‑to‑end processing of legal aid applications.
• Make informed decisions by applying relevant policy and legislation.
• Provide expert advice and respond to information requests.
• Case‑manage files and maintain accurate records.
• Communicate decisions clearly in both written and oral formats.

Required profile

• Strong customer focus with the ability to handle enquiries efficiently.
• Excellent written and oral communication skills.
• Ability to organise and manage a high volume of applications.
• Experience applying policy or legislative frameworks to decision‑making.
