About the role
We are looking for a Grounds Crew Leader to manage a team responsible for maintaining the improved grounds, operational areas, and storm‑water drainage systems on Diego Garcia for a US Navy program. The role ensures that all outdoor spaces meet appearance, safety and operational standards.
Key responsibilities
- Supervise and lead a crew in routine grounds maintenance such as mowing, trimming, pruning, weeding, planting, mulching and watering.
- Inspect, clean and maintain storm‑water drainage systems, removing debris and addressing blockages.
- Respond to service orders, schedule work and ensure timely completion according to contract requirements.
- Operate and coordinate the use of landscaping equipment (mowers, trimmers, blowers, etc.) safely and efficiently.
- Arrange maintenance and repair of equipment to minimise downtime.
- Monitor ground conditions, identify areas needing enhancement or repair, and ensure compliance with appearance standards.
- Train crew members on equipment use, safety protocols and seasonal maintenance tasks.
- Communicate work plans, progress and service‑order status to project managers and government representatives.
- Maintain accurate records of schedules, service orders, equipment usage and team activity for contract reporting.
Required profile
- 2‑4 years of experience in grounds maintenance, landscaping or a related field.
- At least 1 year of supervisory or leadership experience.
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Hands‑on experience with landscaping techniques and power‑tool operation.
- Basic understanding of storm‑water drainage system maintenance.
- Strong leadership, organisational and communication abilities.
- Familiarity with safety standards for grounds‑maintenance tasks and equipment.
