Head of Credit

About the role

The Head of Credit will own the end‑to‑end management of the credit portfolio, from assessment and approval through monitoring, collections and legal recovery. Reporting to the Managing Director, this senior leader will drive credit quality, reduce Portfolio at Risk (PAR) and Non‑Performing Loans (NPLs), and support sustainable growth.

Key responsibilities

• Develop and implement a credit risk strategy aligned with business objectives, setting limits, approval thresholds and portfolio quality standards.
• Lead Credit Analysts and the Debt Recovery Unit to ensure objective credit decisions, timely collections and maximum recoveries.
• Monitor portfolio performance daily, analyse PAR and NPL trends, conduct stress testing and provide actionable recommendations to senior management.
• Set recovery targets, oversee collection strategies, manage external agencies and coordinate legal actions for delinquent accounts.
• Maintain and update credit policies, scorecards and risk‑rating tools, and produce regular risk dashboards for the Board.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting, Economics, Business Administration or a related field; a Master’s degree or professional qualification is an advantage.
• Minimum 8 years progressive credit management experience in a micro‑finance institution or bank, with at least 5 years in a senior credit role.
• Proven track record of improving credit quality, reducing PAR/NPL and leading high‑performing credit teams.
