Head of Digital Bancassurance

About the role

Absa Bank is hiring a Head of Digital Bancassurance in Nairobi, a full-time management position. The role holder builds and grows Digital Bancassurance as a significant, profitable distribution business, with P&L accountability for Digital Distribution and end-to-end responsibility for the digital acquisition, sale and servicing of insurance products to the bank's customers. As Tribe Lead, the role sets commercial vision and mobilizes teams across Bancassurance, Digital, Product, Technology, Data, Customer Experience, Operations, Marketing, Risk and Compliance.

Key responsibilities

• Digital Bancassurance strategy: define and execute the strategy and business plan, set ambitions for mobile, internet and other digital channels, build a multi-year roadmap and embed insurance propositions in customers' banking journeys.
• P&L ownership: own revenue, profitability, digital premium generation, fee and commission income, customer acquisition economics, investment business cases, revenue forecasting and return on digital investment.
• Digital distribution and sales: drive insurance sales through digital channels, grow digital-originated business, increase conversion, optimize funnels, reduce abandonment and migrate servicing activities to digital.
• Tribal leadership: lead cross-functional squads covering product, technology, data, customer experience, marketing, operations, risk, compliance, legal, finance and more, with a value-based backlog and clear accountability.
• Digital insurance journeys: simplify the lifecycle from discovery to claim, with straight-through processing, pre-population, simple payment and digital claims notification.
• Product and proposition management: partner with product teams and insurance partners, simplify products for digital channels and use test-and-learn before scaling.
• Data, analytics and personalisation: segmentation, propensity modelling, next-best-product strategies, funnel analytics, campaign effectiveness, conversion analytics, CLV and A/B testing.
• Customer experience: design journeys around customer needs, simplify terminology and steps, monitor feedback and complaints, and ensure consistency between banking and insurance experiences.
• Partnerships and ecosystem: work with insurance partners to digitize integration and servicing, explore API-enabled propositions and monitor partner outcomes.
• Risk, governance and compliance: customer disclosures, consent, data privacy, cybersecurity, fraud prevention, financial crime controls, operational resilience, technology risk and regulatory requirements.

Required profile

• Bachelor's degree in business, Finance, Insurance, Economics, Technology or a related discipline; MBA or equivalent postgraduate qualification advantageous.
• Typically 10+ years of senior experience spanning bancassurance or insurance, digital financial services, digital sales/distribution, P&L management, product management, customer experience, digital transformation, agile/product/tribe leadership and commercial partnerships.
• Demonstrable experience building or scaling a digital distribution business with measurable revenue and customer outcomes is a key selection criterion.
