Head of Human Resources and Development

About the role

DataCair is looking for a hands-on Head of Human Resources and Development to lead its people function in an air cargo business process outsourcing environment. The teams support international clients through bookings, track and trace, data capture, billing and accounting. The role reports to the Managing Director and leads both the strategy and day-to-day delivery of HR, recruiting, developing and retaining staff while strengthening HR systems.

Key responsibilities

• Advise the Managing Director and senior management on staffing, retention and succession planning, and lead the HR team and its policies
• Manage recruitment from approved requests through screening, interviews, offers and onboarding, and track probation reviews and contract expiries
• Coordinate performance appraisals, quarterly incentive assessments and coach managers on underperformance
• Oversee the training calendar, technical training and competency sign-off, and maintain training records
• Handle grievances and disciplinary matters confidentially, liaise with legal advisers and keep employee files and HRIS records accurate
• Oversee monthly payroll inputs with Finance, administer employee benefits and monitor leave balances and attendance
• Run engagement surveys, use exit interviews and give regular reports on headcount, recruitment, turnover, training and payroll accuracy

Required profile

• Bachelor's degree in Business Administration, Social Sciences or a related field; professional HR qualifications are an advantage
• At least five years of progressive leadership experience
• Practical experience in recruitment, employee relations, performance management, learning and development, payroll oversight and HR compliance in Kenya
• Experience in a BPO, logistics, aviation, contact centre or similar shift-based operation is an advantage
