Head of Programs

About the role

The Emergency Medicine Kenya Foundation is seeking a strategic and experienced Head of Programs to lead the successful implementation of multiple programs and align them with the organisation's goals. The role provides oversight and mentorship to Program Managers, promotes cross-program collaboration and supports strategic planning and decision-making. It is a full-time position based in Nairobi.

Key responsibilities

• Provide strategic, technical and operational leadership across programs and projects, turning the organisation's strategy into priorities, annual plans, frameworks, indicators and resource requirements.
• Supervise and mentor Program Managers and other program and research staff, set performance expectations and support recruitment, onboarding and retention.
• Oversee day-to-day implementation, quality assurance, reporting and compliance with donor agreements, ethical requirements and safeguarding standards.
• Strengthen monitoring, evaluation, research and learning systems, including theories of change, results frameworks, data collection and evaluation studies.
• Lead scientific writing, peer-reviewed publications and knowledge translation, and prepare donor, operational and impact reports for senior leadership, the Board and donors.
• Review and monitor program budgets, work with Program Managers and the finance team on variances and financial risks, and contribute to grant applications and procurement plans.
• Act as a senior technical focal point for government institutions, county governments, donors, research partners and other stakeholders.
