Heavy Equipment Operator, Truck Driver and Labourer

About the role

Working under the direction of the Lead Hand, you will maintain municipal infrastructure throughout both summer and winter seasons. The role covers bridge and road work, signage installation, park upkeep, and snow‑clearing operations to keep road users safe.

Key responsibilities

• Operate graders, backhoes, excavators, tractors, snow blowers, wheel loaders, salt spreaders and snowplows.
• Perform rough grading, road shoulder resurfacing, culvert replacement, trench excavation and backfilling.
• Load and unload trucks, transport gravel, rock and other materials.
• Install storm‑water piping, 9‑1‑1 civic address signs and traffic signs.
• Conduct winter operations: apply salt/sand, clear snow from roads, sidewalks and municipal areas, and transport excess snow.
• Perform daily equipment inspections, maintain logs and carry out routine maintenance (oil changes, greasing, filter replacement, light repairs).
• Report hazards, document resident‑placed snow, patrol assigned sectors and provide written reports to supervisors.

Required profile

• Secondary school diploma or equivalent.
• Minimum two years experience as a DZ class truck driver.
• Valid Class DZ driver’s licence.
• First Aid, CPR/AED, WHMIS and fire‑extinguisher certifications.
• Chainsaw certification is an asset.
• Ability to work long hours, independently and as part of a team.

Required skills

• Operation of heavy equipment (excavator, grader, backhoe, tractor, snowplow, dump truck).
• Class DZ truck driving.
• First Aid/CPR/AED certification.
• WHMIS certification.
• Chainsaw operation (asset).
