Industrial Protective Coatings Applicator

About the role

Zenith Steel Fabricators Ltd, a steel fabrication company serving East and Central Africa, is hiring a full-time, on-site Industrial Protective Coatings Applicator for its facility in Isinya. The role prepares steel surfaces and applies protective coatings according to technical specifications and safety standards.

Key responsibilities

• Prepare steel surfaces by cleaning, sanding, blasting and masking to ensure proper adhesion of coatings.
• Mix and apply industrial paints and coatings with brushes, rollers and spray equipment.
• Read and interpret work orders and drawings, and monitor coating thickness and finish quality.
• Document completed work and maintain equipment.
• Follow strict health and safety procedures and collaborate with fabrication and quality control teams to meet project deadlines.

Required profile

• Prior experience as a painter or coatings applicator in steel fabrication, construction or industrial environments is an advantage.
• Vocational training or certification in industrial painting, coatings application or a related trade is preferred.
• Ability to work on-site in an industrial environment, including standing for long periods, working at heights and handling moderate physical tasks.
• Reliable work ethic, strong time management and ability to work in a diverse team.

Required skills

• Surface preparation: cleaning, sanding and abrasive blasting of steel structures.
• Mixing, applying and curing industrial protective coatings manually and by spray.
• Reading technical drawings, work orders and manufacturer specifications for coating systems.
• Knowledge of coating safety practices: PPE, chemical handling, ventilation and safe equipment operation.
• Attention to detail in inspecting coating quality, measuring film thickness and spotting defects such as runs, pinholes or poor adhesion.
• Basic mechanical aptitude for operating and maintaining spray guns and compressors.
