Intern Foresight and Futures Work

About the role

The internship supports UNFPA’s corporate foresight agenda, helping to embed anticipatory governance and strategic planning across the organization. Working remotely from Nairobi, the intern will gain hands‑on experience in futures trend analysis, horizon scanning and knowledge management within an international development context.

Key responsibilities

• Assist in designing and implementing Futures Trend Analysis (FTA) exercises for selected UNFPA Country Offices.
• Support the coordination and facilitation of UNCT strategic foresight initiatives.
• Help integrate foresight insights into Country Programme Documents and adaptive programming processes.
• Contribute to foresight knowledge management, including documentation of emerging practices.
• Develop practical tools, guidance notes and learning resources for institutional foresight capacity.
• Conduct research, horizon scanning, trend analysis and stakeholder engagement activities.

Required profile

• Currently enrolled in or recently graduated from a relevant academic program (e.g., international development, public policy, futures studies).
• Strong analytical mindset with interest in strategic foresight and anticipatory governance.
• Ability to work collaboratively with headquarters, regional and country offices and UN partners.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English.
• Availability for a full‑time, three‑month internship starting September 2026, with possibility of extension.
