Internal Inspector - Organic Farms

About the role

Brites Management Services is hiring a full-time Internal Inspector in Kwale County for its manufacturing business. The inspector carries out internal inspections of farms, production units and collection centres against organic certification standards (USDA/NOP and EU 2018/848) and supports farmers in meeting organic and Fair-Trade requirements.

Key responsibilities

• Inspect farms, production units and collection centres according to ICS procedures and organic standards, reviewing compliance with EU organic regulations.
• Carry out yield estimation and balance verification, and ensure checklists and reports are completed and submitted on time.
• Identify non-compliance, guide farmers on corrective actions and accompany field officers on field visits.
• Educate farmers on organic and Fair-Trade standards and help them meet coconut quality requirements through traceability.
• Train field officers, buying and receiving clerks on the inspection process and compliance requirements.
• Prepare detailed inspection reports, maintain farmer compliance records and support data for external inspections and certification bodies.
• Report ongoing compliance issues to the Sustainability and Compliance Manager and the data clerk, and follow up on corrective actions.
• Stay up to date with EU and USDA/NOP regulations and keep up impartiality, avoiding audits of land or members with whom there is a personal connection.

Required profile

• Diploma in Agriculture and two years of work experience.
• Fluent English and Swahili.
• Willingness to spend long hours in the field, riding and walking on farms.
• Valid motorcycle licence and experience riding a motorcycle.

Required skills

• Excellent knowledge of farming practices, organic standards, Fair Trade and climate-smart farming.
• Moderate computer skills, especially Microsoft Excel, Word and PowerPoint.
• Ability to communicate with people of all literacy levels and to use smart gadgets for data collection and surveys.
