Inventory Accountant – Retail/Supermarket

About the role

The Inventory Accountant will manage stock movements and ensure accurate financial reporting for a retail/supermarket environment. You will work closely with procurement and store operations to maintain inventory integrity and support business decisions.

Key responsibilities

• Monitor and record daily stock movements including receipts, transfers, sales and returns.
• Conduct regular stock counts and reconcile physical inventory with system records.
• Investigate and resolve inventory discrepancies and ensure proper documentation.
• Record and reconcile inventory‑related transactions in QuickBooks and prepare monthly valuation and COGS reports.
• Support the preparation of financial statements by providing accurate inventory data.
• Assist in budgeting, forecasting and cash‑flow management related to inventory.
• Implement internal controls to safeguard inventory and ensure compliance with accounting standards.
• Support internal and external audits by supplying inventory and accounting records.
• Collaborate with procurement and store teams to align inventory records and provide timely reports on stock levels, shrinkage and profitability.
• Recommend process improvements to enhance efficiency and accuracy.

Required profile

• CPA II qualification (or higher) required.
• Diploma or degree in Accounting, Finance or a related field preferred.
• Minimum three years of experience in a retail or supermarket environment.
• Hands‑on experience in inventory accounting and reconciliation.
• Strong knowledge of accounting principles and inventory management.
• High attention to detail and strong analytical/problem‑solving abilities.
