Japanese Language Trainer (JLPT/JFT Preparation)

About the role

CMTI, a Japanese language institute in Nairobi, is looking for a Japanese Language Trainer to report to the Principal. The trainer delivers learner-centered Japanese instruction at JLPT/JFT N5-N4 levels, prepares learners for the exams and supports their academic, professional and employment success. The role also covers curriculum design, assessment, learner support and partnerships.

Key responsibilities

• Develop and regularly update the institute's Japanese curriculum in line with JLPT/JFT standards, and source and integrate teaching materials and authentic cultural content.
• Deliver interactive lessons covering listening, reading, writing and speaking, adapting to diverse learning styles.
• Aim for at least 80% of learners to pass their target JLPT/JFT levels and be ready for interviews with Japanese employers and partner institutions.
• Complete at least one Japanese teaching certification or professional development course per year and apply at least 75% of new methods to lessons and feedback reports by the end of each quarter.
• Schedule, administer and grade assessments, give feedback within one week and escalate struggling learners to the Training Coordinator.
• Track attendance, assessments and progress, run individual coaching after each unit and submit monthly progress reports.
• Work with marketing to promote programs and raise enrollment by at least 10% annually, and support partnerships with exam bodies and cultural institutions.

Required profile

• JLPT/JFT certification at N2 or N1 level.
• At least 2 to 3 years of teaching experience in a recognized institution.
• Excellent spoken and written Japanese.

Required skills

• Deep knowledge of Japanese culture, etiquette and communication norms.
• Digital literacy: teaching software, online education platforms and remote teaching.
• Communication, interpersonal and classroom management skills.
