Junior Accountant (Consultancy Role)

About the role

A temporary consultancy position for a Junior Accountant in Nairobi, supporting the finance team in managing client accounts, updating financial records and maintaining compliance. The role focuses on accurate data entry, reconciliations and client support during a busy period, with an immediate start and a contract of 3 to 6 months, renewable based on performance and workload.

Key responsibilities

• Assist in day-to-day accounting operations, including data entry, reconciliations and ledger updates.
• Support the preparation and posting of journal entries and financial transactions.
• Help manage accounts receivable and payable, collections and payment processing.
• Maintain proper filing of invoices, receipts and supporting documentation.
• Support external auditors by organizing and sharing relevant records.
• Assist in statutory and tax compliance, including PAYE, VAT and Withholding Tax.
• Prepare draft financial summaries and reports for review by the Senior Accountant.
• Respond to client queries professionally and accurately, while keeping client information confidential.

Required profile

• CPA (K) qualification (Certified Public Accountant - Kenya).
• Minimum of 2 years' experience in a reputable audit, accounting or finance firm.
• Strong understanding of accounting principles and basic tax compliance.
• Excellent written and spoken English.
• Integrity, attention to detail, good communication and organizational skills, and ability to adapt to a fast-paced consulting environment.

Required skills

• Proficiency in MS Excel.
• Accounting software such as QuickBooks or Sage.
