Job description
About the role
Savannah Informatics, a Kenyan e-health software company founded by clinicians and finance specialists, is looking for a Junior Product Designer to join its Product Development team. The role supports product discovery, user research and design execution across healthcare systems and workflows, helping turn user needs into user journeys, flows and prototypes. It suits someone early in their design career who enjoys solving complex problems and designing with users and real-world constraints in mind.
Key responsibilities
- Gather user requirements through stakeholder collaboration and research, and take part in brainstorming and market and competitive research
- Create user journeys and flows, then wireframe and prototype with modern design tools, iterating on feedback
- Support developer handoff, user testing and validation, and contribute to design QA during development and release cycles
- Document design decisions, assumptions and trade-offs, and help maintain reusable templates and design assets
- Work with designers, product managers and engineers throughout the product lifecycle, taking part in Agile ceremonies such as standups, sprint planning, grooming and reviews
Required profile
- Bachelor's degree in Design, Computer Science, Engineering, Business, Marketing or a related field
- Experience as a design intern, assistant designer or junior designer
- A portfolio showing product design, UX/UI work or relevant coursework
- Exposure to user research and requirements gathering; experience collaborating with developers is an advantage
- Familiarity with Agile teams and tools such as Jira is an advantage
Required skills
- Strong understanding of UX and UI fundamentals: hierarchy, feedback, accessibility, usability, colour, typography and layout
- Ability to reason about UI states and microinteractions (default, empty, loading, error, success)
- Foundational knowledge of design thinking: research, discovery, validation, prototyping and testing
- Good documentation habits, attention to detail, and clear written and verbal communication
Tools used: Figma, Canva and Adobe Creative Suite for design and prototyping; Jira and Confluence for task tracking and sprint planning; GitLab for collaboration with engineering teams. Candidates do not need to be engineers but should be comfortable in a software development environment. The advertised salary is 80,000-100,000 KES per month.
