Laboratory Technician – Fixed-Term (Kenya)

About the role

As a Soko Laboratory Technician you will ensure the integrity of samples from aseptic collection on the factory floor through high‑tech preparation and rigorous laboratory maintenance. The position supports One Acre Fund’s quality assurance process for macadamia, avocado oil, and dried fruit production lines.

Key responsibilities

• Execute daily aseptic sampling plans across multiple production lines, guaranteeing zero external contamination.
• Perform environmental swabbing of high‑care zones to verify microbiology sanitation.
• Maintain accurate statistical representation of small‑volume samples to reflect bulk volumes.
• Track samples in the Laboratory Information Management System (LIMS) to preserve chain of custody.
• Prepare samples using cryogenic grinding, solvent extraction, and serial dilutions for final analysis.
• Manage clean‑to‑dirty glassware flow, operate autoclaves, and ensure 100% tool sterility.
• Formulate culture media and chemical reagents for PCR or ELISA testing.
• Oversee hazardous waste disposal in compliance with NEMA and OSHA standards.
• Monitor consumable burn rates, trigger reorders, and maintain chemical storage and PPE compliance.
