Laboratory Technician

About the role

A school in Kiambu is looking for a full-time Laboratory Technician. The post holder prepares and maintains laboratory equipment, apparatus and materials for practical lessons, supports teachers and learners during experiments, and ensures compliance with laboratory safety, hygiene and chemical handling procedures.

Key responsibilities

• Prepare laboratory apparatus, equipment, chemicals and materials for practical lessons and experiments
• Assist teachers in conducting science practicals and demonstrations
• Ensure safe handling, storage, labelling and disposal of chemicals and laboratory waste
• Maintain equipment, apparatus and materials in good working condition
• Monitor stock and keep accurate inventory records
• Keep the laboratory clean, organised, secure and safe, and enforce safety procedures and PPE use
• Record practical activities, equipment usage, chemical consumption and maintenance, and report damaged equipment, shortages, accidents and safety concerns
• Support practical learning aligned with the Competency-Based Curriculum (CBC) and make sure safety instructions are followed by learners and staff
• Perform other duties assigned by school management

Required profile

• Diploma or certificate in Laboratory Technology, Applied Sciences, Science Laboratory Technology or a related field from a recognised institution
• Practical knowledge of laboratory procedures, equipment and scientific experiments
• Knowledge of chemical handling, laboratory safety and waste disposal
• Good organisational, recordkeeping and inventory management skills
• Proficiency in digital literacy and basic computer applications
• Ability to work with teachers, learners and other staff, with integrity, attention to detail and confidentiality
• Valid Certificate of Good Conduct
• Previous experience in a school or educational laboratory is an added advantage
