Lead Accountant - Remote

About the role

The Lead Accountant will own the technical integrity of the accounting function for assigned clients, ensuring accurate financial reporting and high‑quality month‑end close. Working remotely, you will coach a team of Accountants, identify financial risks early, and drive consistency across engagements.

Key responsibilities

• Maintain ownership of General Ledger accuracy, reconcile balance‑sheet accounts monthly and ensure GAAP‑compliant classifications.
• Review all month‑end work completed by Accountants, validate reconciliations, and provide coaching rather than simple corrections.
• Answer technical accounting questions, mentor staff, identify training opportunities and promote independent problem‑solving.
• Research complex accounting issues, recommend treatments, and support unusual journal entries and reconciliations.
• Analyze balance‑sheet trends, P&L fluctuations, revenue recognition, payroll, fixed assets and debt activity to ensure internal consistency.
• Recommend workflow improvements, standardize templates, develop SOPs and identify automation opportunities.
• Share knowledge across teams, assist teammates during close, cross‑train on clients and support special projects.
