Learning Scientist

About the role

The Learning Scientist will shape the pedagogical direction of ALX’s learning platform, ensuring that instructional design is grounded in proven learning science and that AI‑driven tools genuinely support learner development. Working from Nairobi, you will collaborate closely with product engineers and the experimentation team to translate research into tangible product decisions.

Key responsibilities

• Guide pedagogical decisions across the platform, from design input to evaluation of learning efficacy.
• Adapt ALX’s learning framework so that it reflects authentic pedagogy rather than superficial labels.
• Design and run experiments that test core pedagogical assumptions, such as the impact of tutor guidance on learner autonomy.
• Partner with engineers to co‑design AI‑based features, applying learning‑science principles to product specifications.

Required profile

• Strong grounding in modern learning‑science frameworks and the ability to apply them in practice.
• Solid understanding of large‑language‑model capabilities and limitations for educational use.
• Experience designing rigorous experiments with clear hypotheses, measures, and methodological rigor.
• Comfort challenging assumptions across disciplines and communicating evidence‑based insights.
