Lecturer in Mental Health and Psychiatric Nursing (Grade 12)

About the role

Mama Ngina University College, a constituent college of Kenyatta University, is recruiting a Grade 12 Lecturer in Mental Health and Psychiatric Nursing (reference MNUC/L/001/2026) in its Department of Nursing and Clinical Studies. The appointment is permanent and pensionable, with remuneration based on the IPUCCF-approved salary scales and the prevailing collective bargaining agreement.

Key responsibilities

• Lecture in the area of specialization according to the syllabus
• Coordinate course projects and practical work
• Prepare teaching and learning materials
• Set, invigilate and mark examinations and assignments
• Carry out research in a relevant field and develop research funding proposals
• Write journal articles and books, and present papers at conferences and seminars
• Develop and review academic programmes and curricula
• Supervise tutorial and junior research fellows and students
• Undertake consultancies and build networks with local and international organisations
• Manage budgets for student field trips and research
• Provide leadership in the department where appropriate

Required profile

• An earned PhD in Mental Health and Psychiatric Nursing, or a Master's degree with at least three years of university-level teaching, research or industry experience
• Bachelor's degree in Nursing from an accredited university
• At least 24 publication points, of which at least 16 from refereed journals
• Registered with the Nursing Council of Kenya with a valid practice licence
• Proficiency in computer applications; progress toward a PhD is an added advantage
