Legal Counsel – Africa

About the role

Thunes is seeking a Legal Counsel to support its Legal & Compliance function across Africa. You will work closely with senior legal leaders to provide sound legal advice in English and French, focusing on contracts with network partners and customers for regulated payment services.

Key responsibilities

• Act as a core member of Thunes’ legal team, liaising with other departments to anticipate and address their legal needs.
• Provide pragmatic, legally sound guidance to cross‑functional stakeholders.
• Support commercial contracting, product development, payments, sales and marketing activities.
• Manage substantive legal issues and ensure compliance with payment data, processing regulations, and licensing requirements.
• Assist in acquiring and maintaining payment institution, money‑remittance, and other relevant licences.

Required profile

• Highly motivated self‑starter with proven ability to thrive in a fast‑paced environment.
• Strong independent work ethic combined with effective teamwork skills.
• Fluent in English and French, capable of drafting and reviewing complex contracts.
• Experience advising on regulated payment services and related licensing.
