Legal Officer – Corporate Governance & Litigation

About the role

The Legal Officer will ensure the bank’s legal compliance, manage corporate governance matters and oversee commercial legal issues. This full‑time position is based in Nairobi and reports to the head of the legal unit.

Key responsibilities

• Issue instructions to lawyers, monitor perfection of securities and ensure timely completion within approved TATs.
• Scrutinise credit and security documents, certify their correctness and prepare contracts, leases and MOUs.
• Research and draft legal opinions on risks, audit security documents and maintain registers of outstanding securities.
• Manage litigation cases, prepare demand letters, coordinate witnesses and documentary evidence, and produce monthly litigation reports.
• Review KYC documents, bank standard documentation and staff‑related matters to ensure compliance with the Employment Act and other regulations.

Required profile

• Bachelor of Laws (LL.B) from a recognised university.
• KSL Diploma (mandatory).
• At least 3 years of experience in a bank’s legal department.
• Minimum 6 months pupilage in a busy commercial law firm.
• Holder of CPS and/or COS certificates is an advantage.
