Locum Midwife Nurse – Maternal & Neonatal Care

About the role

The International Rescue Committee seeks a Locum Midwife Nurse to deliver high‑quality maternal and neonatal care in its health facilities in Hagadera, Kenya. You will work within a multidisciplinary team to ensure safe admissions, deliveries, and post‑natal support for mothers and newborns.

Key responsibilities

• Provide comprehensive maternal and perinatal nursing care from admission through discharge.
• Conduct antenatal check‑ups, monitor vital signs, order and interpret diagnostics, and deliver health education.
• Manage labour and delivery, including normal vaginal births, assisted deliveries, and neonatal resuscitation.
• Offer post‑natal monitoring, breastfeeding support, and family‑planning counseling.
• Identify obstetric and neonatal complications early and initiate timely interventions.
• Prepare and accompany patients for referrals, ensuring proper documentation and equipment.
• Maintain accurate clinical records in the EMR and submit required Ministry of Health reports.
• Participate in continuous quality improvement, infection prevention, and respectful maternity care initiatives.
• Lead ward rounds, supervise staff, manage equipment inventories, and ensure emergency preparedness.

Required profile

• Kenya Registered Community Health Nurse (KRCHN) or Kenya Registered Midwife (KRM) with a valid practicing licence.
• Minimum two years of clinical experience in a busy maternity ward.
• Experience in limited‑resource settings and ability to speak a local language are advantageous.

Required skills

• Certificate in Emergency Obstetric and Neonatal Care (EMONC).
• Proficiency in SBAR handover communication.
• Competence in using electronic medical records (EMR) for documentation.
• Knowledge of infection prevention and control (IPC) protocols.
• Ability to manage emergency crash carts and equipment inventories.
