Maintenance Technician - Nakuru Factory

About the role

Spin-Knit Limited is looking for a Maintenance Technician for its factory in Nakuru. The company trains and mentors candidates into the position, and the role reports to the Head of Department, Maintenance. The postholder will be trained in troubleshooting, repair and servicing of machines.

Key responsibilities

• Help the HOD prepare and implement the maintenance plan
• Carry out troubleshooting with targeted MTTR and accuracy, tracking MTBF, MTTR and OEE for all equipment
• Perform root cause analysis of failures with the electrical and maintenance teams and ensure permanent countermeasures are taken
• Implement cost-effective equipment modifications to improve safety and reliability
• Follow manufacturer instructions and established procedures to keep equipment operational and reliable
• Prepare and follow daily, weekly and monthly checklists and maintenance plans
• Monitor maintenance dashboards, ECLs, pre- and post-audits, log planned maintenance activities and prepare daily, weekly and monthly reports
• Support cost-saving and energy-saving projects and help the department meet production, quality, wastage, power and maintenance cost targets
• Coordinate between the electrical, maintenance and production teams and guide team members to close performance gaps
• Adhere to the Kaizen methodology, DWM system, safety rules, 5K and company policies

Required profile

• National Diploma or Certificate in Mechanical Engineering, or a graded artisan from a recognised institution
• Mechatronics background or education preferred
• Ability and willingness to undergo practical on-the-job training
• Basic computer knowledge
• Ability to learn to work independently and to be groomed for future leadership roles
