Maternal and Newborn Health Coordinator

About the role

The Maternal and Newborn Health Coordinator will lead technical and operational support for MNH programme implementation at county level, ensuring high‑impact interventions reach mothers and newborns in Turkana, Samburu and Garissa. This full‑time role works closely with county health teams and partners to improve the quality and reliability of care.

Key responsibilities

• Coordinate and provide technical and operational support for Maternal and Newborn Health (MNH) programmes at county level.
• Support delivery of high‑impact maternal and newborn interventions in assigned counties.
• Strengthen quality, timeliness and reliability of care in health facilities and referral networks.
• Improve provider competence, emergency readiness, referral functionality and continuity of services.
• Serve as primary county‑level focal person, liaising with County Health Management Teams, facility in‑charges, mentors, records teams and technical partners.
• Implement evidence‑based approaches such as Emergency Obstetric and Neonatal Care (EmONC), newborn care, mentorship, MPDSR follow‑through, referral strengthening, emergency preparedness and routine performance review.

Required profile

• Experienced professional with a background in maternal and newborn health.
• Ability to work at county level and coordinate multi‑stakeholder teams.
• Strong understanding of Kenya’s health system, Ministry of Health priorities and county government structures.
• Good communication and reporting skills for interaction with public health managers and programme coordinators.
• Full‑time availability.
