Medical Director

About the role

The Medical Director will lead clinical governance, quality and safety oversight, and ensure regulatory compliance across Mombasa Hospital. Reporting to senior leadership, the role involves strategic planning and staff management to drive high‑quality patient care in a busy level‑4/5 hospital environment.

Key responsibilities

• Provide clinical governance and oversee quality and safety programs.
• Ensure regulatory compliance with Kenyan health authorities.
• Lead strategic planning and implementation of hospital initiatives.
• Manage medical staff, including recruitment, performance, and conflict resolution.
• Coordinate with private insurance frameworks and SHA/SHIF operations.

Required profile

• MBChB (or equivalent) from a recognized institution.
• Master’s degree in Medicine, Public Health, Healthcare Management or related field (highly desirable).
• Valid KMPDC licence and current retention certificate.
• 7‑10 years of clinical experience, with at least 3‑5 years in senior medical management within a level‑4 or 5 hospital.
• Proven experience as a clinical lead (department or section) for a minimum of five years.
• Strong understanding of the Kenyan healthcare ecosystem, including SHA/SHIF operations and private insurance.
