Mid-Level Associate – Banking Lawyer (Kenya)

About the role

Our client, a leading international law firm with a strong presence across Africa, is seeking a Mid‑Level Associate to join its Nairobi office. The role focuses on banking and finance matters, particularly debt financing and related transactions.

Key responsibilities

• Advise corporate clients on banking and debt financing structures.
• Draft, review and negotiate loan agreements, security documents and related contracts.
• Support cross‑border transactions involving counterparties in London and New York.
• Conduct legal research and provide opinions on regulatory compliance in Kenya and other jurisdictions.
• Collaborate with senior partners and other practice groups to deliver comprehensive legal solutions.

Required profile

• Qualified lawyer with several years of experience in banking or finance law.
• Demonstrated expertise in debt financing and loan documentation.
• Experience working on international transactions, preferably with exposure to UK or US markets.
• Strong analytical and communication skills, with the ability to work independently and as part of a team.

Required skills

• Knowledge of Kenyan banking regulations and financial law.
• Proficiency in drafting and negotiating loan agreements and security instruments.
• Familiarity with cross‑border finance transactions.
