NICU Nurses (Paediatrics Critical Care) - Locum

About the role

Mater Misericordiae Hospital, a healthcare provider in East and Central Africa, is recruiting paediatric critical care (NICU) nurses on a locum basis. The successful candidate provides specialised nursing care to premature, critically ill and high-risk newborns.

Key responsibilities

• Conduct neonatal nursing assessments and develop, implement and evaluate individualised care plans.
• Monitor and document vital signs, oxygen saturation, temperature, feeding tolerance, fluid balance, weight and other clinical parameters.
• Provide care to neonates receiving respiratory support such as oxygen therapy and CPAP.
• Recognise early signs of neonatal deterioration and escalate to the attending clinician when needed.
• Maintain accurate and timely nursing documentation.
• Facilitate parental involvement, including kangaroo mother care and breastfeeding support, and promote communication with parents and the multidisciplinary team.
• Take part in quality improvement initiatives, unit meetings, handovers and departmental activities.
• Ensure neonatal equipment is functional and well maintained, and check incubators, monitors, infusion pumps, phototherapy units and respiratory support equipment.

Required profile

• Diploma in KRCHN/KRN/M, or a post-basic higher national diploma in Kenyan Registered Neonatal Nursing (KRNEON).
• Registered with the Nursing Council of Kenya (NCK) with a valid practicing licence.
• Minimum of 6 months' nursing experience.
• Computer proficient.
