Occasional Teacher (Elementary & Secondary)

About the role

The York Catholic District School Board is seeking qualified teachers for its occasional (substitute) teaching pool. Positions are available across elementary and secondary schools, covering subjects such as Music, Core French, French Immersion, Deaf & Hard of Hearing, Math, Computer Science and Physics. Successful candidates will work on a day‑by‑day basis, receiving a daily rate of $289.19 CAD for each full day taught.

Key responsibilities

• Deliver curriculum-aligned instruction in assigned subject areas.
• Maintain a safe, inclusive, and Catholic‑values‑driven classroom environment.
• Assess student learning and provide timely feedback.
• Collaborate with school staff and adhere to board policies.

Required profile

• Current resume and cover letter.
• Pastoral reference confirming active Roman Catholic practice (issued within the past 12 months).
• Minimum two practice teaching reports or teacher evaluations.
• At least two letters of reference, one academic, from a principal, mentor teacher, or similar.
• Certificate of completion for the Religious Education Pre‑Service course (if offered).
• Successful vulnerable sector screening prior to start.

Required skills

• Ability to manage classroom dynamics and student engagement.
• Familiarity with Catholic education principles.
