Part-Time Handball Coach

About the role

M-PESA Foundation Academy is looking for a part-time handball coach based in Thika, Kenya. The coach delivers structured, sport-specific training to student-athletes, supports their development and competition readiness, and acts as a positive role model.

Key responsibilities

• Develop and deliver individual and team training plans, running scheduled weekly sessions in line with the school calendar
• Identify and develop high-potential players, giving them competitive opportunities while ensuring equal participation and skill progression for all
• Educate players on handball rules, sportsmanship and lifestyle planning (recovery, academics, life skills), and act as a role model on and off the court
• Supervise players in a safe environment, uphold child protection standards and report injuries, accidents or safeguarding concerns promptly
• Maintain attendance records, manage sports equipment inventory, track player progress and submit termly review reports
• Prepare, lead and support teams in external tournaments, friendly fixtures and internal sports events

Required profile

• Bachelor's degree or diploma in Physical Education, Sports Science or a related field
• Valid handball coaching certification or licence from a recognised national or international body (e.g. KHF, CAHB or IHF)
• At least 3 years' experience coaching youth or high-school handball teams, with a record of athlete development and competition management
