Payable Accountant (International School)

About the role

An international school in Nairobi, Kenya, is looking for a Payable Accountant. The role covers accurate financial records, accounts payable operations, financial reporting support, statutory compliance and internal financial controls, including timely supplier payments, reconciliations, month-end activities and adherence to financial policies.

Key responsibilities

• Maintain accurate accounting records and ensure proper general ledger and cost center postings.
• Manage end-to-end accounts payable, including invoice verification, three-way matching and payment processing.
• Process supplier and M-Pesa payments with adequate supporting documentation and compliance.
• Perform weekly reconciliations of supplier ledgers, payroll creditors, M-Pesa accounts and corporate debit card accounts.
• Support month-end and year-end closing and ensure finance schedules are completed on time.
• Process and reconcile VAT, withholding tax and reverse VAT transactions to support statutory compliance.
• Assist internal and external audits and maintain accurate records and supporting documentation.
• Ensure compliance with finance policies and internal controls and support continuous process improvement.

Required profile

• Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Commerce or a related field.
• Professional accounting qualification such as CPA (K) or ACCA is an added advantage.
• Minimum of 3 years of experience in financial accounting and accounts payable.
• Strong analytical, reconciliation, organizational and communication skills, with integrity and attention to detail.

Required skills

• Proficiency in ERP systems.
• Intermediate to advanced Microsoft Excel.
