PE Teacher and Sports Coordinator

About the role

The PE Teacher and Sports Coordinator will lead physical education and sports programming at Sankore International School, a new mission‑driven school in Nairobi. Reporting to the Head of Teaching and Learning, the role blends classroom instruction with the development of after‑school clubs, competitions and partnerships, ensuring inclusive and safe participation for all learners.

Key responsibilities

• Plan and deliver engaging, inclusive PE lessons for early years through primary students.
• Develop fundamental movement skills, coordination, balance, strength, agility and confidence.
• Introduce age‑appropriate games, athletics, team sports, individual challenges and fitness activities.
• Differentiate instruction for students with diverse physical, developmental, language, sensory and learning needs.
• Build a positive culture where every child can participate, improve and enjoy movement.
• Design and grow Sankore’s sports program, creating pathways from PE lessons to clubs, teams and competitions.
• Identify priority sports, coordinate after‑school clubs and manage external sports vendors.
• Develop fixtures, competitions and partnerships with other schools while ensuring robust safeguarding practices.

Required profile

• Qualified teacher with experience delivering physical education in a primary‑age setting.
• Demonstrated ability to create inclusive, differentiated PE lessons.
• Strong understanding of child safeguarding and whole‑school safety responsibilities.
• Experience planning and managing extracurricular sports programs or clubs.
• Excellent communication and collaboration skills for working with staff, parents and external partners.
• Commitment to the school’s mission of access, diversity and holistic student development.
