PhD Studentship in Malaria Research

About the role

KEMRI is offering a PhD studentship for candidates committed to a long‑term career in malaria research. The position is based in Kilifi County, Kenya and involves both laboratory and field work.

Key responsibilities

• Conduct molecular biology experiments such as PCR, RT‑PCR, sequencing, cell culture and microscopy.
• Collect and coordinate field data, supporting data‑collection efforts in malaria‑endemic areas.
• Analyse data using statistical software and bioinformatics tools.
• Prepare and present findings at scientific meetings and in peer‑reviewed journals.

Required profile

• Master’s degree (or equivalent) in Immunology, Molecular Biology, Biochemistry, Biotechnology, Bioinformatics, Public Health or a related field.
• Proof of current PhD registration (first year) is an advantage.
• Demonstrated motivation for a career in malaria research and willingness to work in Kilifi for the duration of the studies.
• Excellent communication, analytical and scientific writing skills in English.
